Tournament Levels
There are Junior Tournaments for all players whether you are entry-level, intermediate, or advanced. Florida Section Tournaments are categorized by Levels. These Levels range from 1 – 7. See tabs below for more information.

These tournaments are great for the player starting their junior competitive career. Players should have basic match experience and have completed a number of practice matches.
- Yellow ball
- Open to players from any USTA section
- Event Duration: Up to 1 day
- Florida Draw Formats:
- Round robin
- Round robin with playoff
- Compass draw
- Team format
- Max Draw Size per Age Division: 16 singles
- Florida Scoring Formats:
- Short sets (first to 4 games)
- Best 2 of 3 short sets (3rd set is a 7 point tiebreak)
- Single set (first to 6 games, 7-point tiebreak at 6 all)
- Timed matches
- Match 10-point tiebreak (doubles only)
These tournaments are for the more serious junior competitive player.
- Yellow ball
- Open to players from any USTA section
- Event Duration: Up to 2 days
- Florida Draw Formats:
- Round robin
- Round robin with playoff
- Compass draw
- Team format
- Feed-in to quarterfinals
- Max Draw Size per Age Division: 16 Singles (can have multiple draws per age Division)
- Florida Scoring Formats:
- Best 2 of 3 sets (3rd set is 10-point tiebreak)
- Best 2 of 3 short sets (3rd set is 7-point tiebreak)
- 8 game pro-set
- Best 2 of 3, 10-point tiebreak games
- Single set (doubles only)
The draw sizes for level 5 tournaments are either a 32 or a 64. Players are also given the opportunity to play doubles in addition to singles.
- Yellow ball
- Open to players from any USTA section
- The top ranked players are selected from those that apply
- Event Duration: Up to 3 days
- Florida Draw Formats:
- Compass draw
- Team format
- Feed-in to round of 16 or quarterfinals
- First match consolation
- Max Draw Size per Age Division:
- 64 or 32 Singles Only
- 32 – 16 Singles W/Double
- Florida Scoring Formats:
- Best 2 of 3 tiebreak set
- Best 2 of 3 short sets (3rd set is 10-point tiebreak)
- Best 2 of 3 short sets (3rd set is 7-point tiebreak)
- 8 game pro-set (doubles only)
- Single set (doubles only)
More ranking points are offered which sometimes attracts the higher ranked player.
- Yellow ball
- These tournaments count for a higher ranking value than Level 5, and also count toward the player’s USTA National Ranking
- Event Duration: Up to 4 days
- Florida Draw Formats:
- Compass draw
- Team format
- Feed-in to round of 16 or quarterfinals
- First match consolation
- Max Draw Size per Age Division:
- 64 or 32 Singles Only
- 32 – 16 Singles W/Double
- Florida Scoring Formats:
- Best 2 of 3 tiebreak set
- Best 2 of 3 short sets (3rd set is 10-point tiebreak)
- Best 2 of 3 short sets (3rd set is 7-point tiebreak)
- 8 game pro-set (doubles only)
- Single set (doubles only)
There are two Level 3 singles & 2 doubles tournaments – USTA Florida Winter Championships and the “Bobby Curtis” Junior State Championships & the USTA FL “Bobby Curtis” Doubles Championship.

- Closed to players from Florida section
- Event Duration: 3+ days
- Florida Draw Formats:
- Compass draw
- Team format
- Feed-in to round of 16 or quarterfinals
- Max Draw Size per Age Division:
- 64 or 32 Singles Only
- 32 Doubles
- Florida Scoring Formats:
- Best 2 of 3 tiebreak set
- Best 2 of 3 short sets (3rd set is 10-point tiebreak)
- Best 2 of 3 short sets (3rd set is 7-point tiebreak)
- 8 game pro-set (doubles only)
- Single set (doubles only)
These tournaments consist of “National Selection” and Zonal Team Competition.
- Yellow Ball
- USTA National Event
- These tournaments are held around the United States
- Zonals and Level 2 tournaments played in Florida may count for a USTA National Ranking
These tournaments are the highest level of competitive tennis in the United States. These tournament are for players who have earned a high enough ranking in order to gain entry.
- USTA National Event
These tournaments count for a USTA National Ranking.

General Rankings FAQs
- USTA Florida sanctioned tournaments (Level 3-7)
- All tournaments on the USTA National Junior schedule
- Results of workshops, exhibitions, or unsanctioned tournaments will not be counted toward the point tabulations.
- Players are awarded ranking points in the 12s through 18s divisions. USTA Florida does not rank players in the 10 and under division.

We no longer need to have any paperwork submitted.
