The USTA Florida Section is thrilled to announce a full schedule of Sectional tennis events for the remainder of 2020 for competitive juniors and USTA Florida adult league players. The events will be held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., in accordance with the National Campus guidelines, USTA Florida program guidelines and local health and safety regulations.

Beginning in September, USTA Florida adult league players will have the opportunity to represent their counties on the court at several Adult League Sectional Championships. Scheduled through the end of 2020, USTA Florida hopes to bring a healthy dose of competition to USTA local league teams, beginning with the rescheduled Mixed 40 and Over 6.0/8.0 on Sept. 19-21, 2020.

“We are very excited to release the remaining Sectional event plans as we have diligently worked to offer as many players as possible the opportunity to advance and compete at the section level,” said Christine Ducey, Adult Tennis Director for USTA Florida. “Our hopes are that players and captains will be able to come together to enjoy the statewide competition, but also understand that modifications are necessary to do that as safely as possible in the COVID-19 environment.”

Competition for juniors will ramp up in late September with the 2020 Bobby Curtis Green Ball Sectional Championship, that will operate on a first-come, first-serve registration. Juniors will also have an opportunity in October to participate in USTA Florida’s storied junior tournament, the 2020 Bobby Curtis Sectional Championships for 16s/18s.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have the opportunity to reschedule our Bobby Curtis Singles Sectional Championships at the National Campus,” said Jason Gilbert, Director of Youth Tennis for USTA Florida. “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve had to make some significant tournament changes including reduced draw sizes, but with safety for all involved being our number one priority we’re sure we’ll have some great tournaments.”

The safety and well-being of all players and event personnel remains the first and foremost consideration of USTA Florida. All events have been modified for safety and will strictly adhere to USTA Florida’s tournament guidelines or league guidelines, whichever is applicable, in addition to guidelines provided by the National Campus.
