Editor’s Note 7/28/2020: Due to the rising numbers surrounding the COVID-19 virus, USTA Florida has made the difficult decision to postpone the Adult Mixed 40 & Over Sectional Championships, which were scheduled for August 22-24 and August 29-31, 2020 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. This was a very difficult decision to make. However, the safety and well-being of our players, their families and event personnel are the first and foremost consideration of USTA Florida when hosting events.
We have scheduled new dates for the Adult Mixed 40 & Over 6.0/8.0 Division on September 19-21, 2020 and for the 7.0/9.0 Division on October 3-5, 2020. We will continue to monitor developments, including state and local guidelines, and issue guidance on future Sectional Championship events on a case-by-case basis.

This was a very difficult decision to make. However, the safety and well-being of our players, their families and event personnel are the first and foremost consideration of USTA Florida when hosting events.
We will continue to monitor developments, including state and local guidelines, and issue guidance on future section events on a case-by-case basis.

The USTA Florida Section is pleased to announce the resumption of Sectional tennis events in August for competitive juniors and USTA Florida adult league players. The returning events will be held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., in accordance with the National Campus guidelines, USTA Florida program guidelines and local health and safety regulations.
USTA Florida’s storied junior tournament, the 2020 Boys and Girls 12s and 14s Bobby Curtis Sectional Championships, will be the first Sectional event to make its return to the court, scheduled for Aug. 15-19, 2020.
“We couldn’t be more excited to host the 2020 Boys and Girls 12s and 14s Bobby Curtis Sectional Championship at the USTA National Campus,” said Jason Gilbert, Director of Youth Tennis for USTA Florida. “With the cancellations of the 12s and 14s divisions at the National Championships this was a great opportunity to provide these age divisions with a substantive play opportunity during that same timeframe.”
Also returning in August will be the 2020 Mixed 40 and Over 6.0/8.0 and 7.0/9.0 Sectional Championship events for USTA Florida adult league players. Matches for the 6.0/8.0 divisions will be held Aug. 22-24, 2020. The 7.0/9.0 divisions will be contested the following weekend on Aug. 29-31, 2020.
“We know how meaningful a chance to attend Sectionals is for our USTA local league winning teams, and we are working hard to give them that opportunity,” said Christine Ducey, Adult Tennis Director for USTA Florida. “We are aware that there may continue to be challenges due to COVID-19 and we will continue to partner with our facility host and local government in our decision making. At this time, we are optimistic that we’ll be able to bring these mixed doubles teams together for a healthy dose of competition.”
The safety and well-being of all players and event personnel remains the first and foremost consideration of USTA Florida. Sectional events will strictly adhere to USTA Florida’s tournament guidelines or league guidelines, whichever is applicable, in addition to guidelines provided by the National Campus.
