Two Florida Players Crowned USTA National Clay Court Champions

The USTA 2023 National Clay Court Championships were held July 9 through July 16 at varying locations across the country. This is one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year as talent from around the country gathers to become the Kings and Queens of Clay. 

Florida players were well represented with many in across 12U/14U/16U/18U Boys’ and Girls’ Singles and Doubles Draws. This included some Bobby Curtis Champions from this year and previous ones as well.

It was a long week of competition, with the best battling it out day in and day out. When all the matches were done and dusted, USTA Florida had two players come out victorious. In the Boys’ 16s, Jack Satterfield (Tampa), who also won the 18s Bobby Curtis Championship this year, defeated Ronit Karki (New Jersey) 7-6, 6-1. 

Jack played really well throughout the entire week, going 7-0 en route to his championship. Through his first two matches, he only dropped 4 games in 4 sets. He continued his dominate play, as he went the whole week without dropping a set. One of his toughest matches came in the semifinals, against the top seeded Cooper Han (California). Cooper is one of the top rated 2025 players in the state of California and the match was exciting. The two went back a fourth, trading games in the opening set, But Jack was able to take two games in a row the close out the set 7-5. In the second set, the two kept their intensity up and forced a tiebreaker to determine the set. Jack came out hot and stayed that way, sweeping the tiebreaker 7-0. 

Jack then went on of course to take down Ronit Karki in the finals and become the Boys’ 16s National Clay Court Champion, building to his already impressive summer.

He wasn’t the only winner from Florida, as the section had one in the Girls 12s, where Daniela Davletshina (Lake Worth) defeated Sofia Kedrin (New York) 7-5, 6-3. 

Daniela was dominant all week long, going 7-0 in her matches as well. She faced adversity in her third match against Ella Lin (New Jersey), who took the opening set in their match up. However, Daniela bounced back to take the next two sets and continued on her path to the trophy. She also took down the second seed, Kathyrn Cragg (New York) in a tough 3-set match. 

USTA Florida is extremely proud of our two champions and everyone that represented the state on the National level. On top of that, there were seven others who reached the finals in their respective draws. Those results are listed below.
