Three singles players punched their ticket to Nationals after victories in their respective divisions at the 2020 USTA Florida NTRP 50 & Over Championships, held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando on Feb. 22-23, 2020.
22 men and women competed in the singles division at the qualifying event in the 3.5 and 4.0 divisions. All draws were played out with the round-robin format. Each match utilized no-ad scoring and was the best-of-three short sets to four games with a tiebreak at 3-3; the tiebreak format was the first to five points with a sudden-death point at 4-4.
Qualified winners are now eligible to advance to the 2021 NTRP 50 & Over National Championships next spring to represent USTA Florida. Players must have a 2017, 2018, or 2019 computer-generated NTRP rating to be eligible for advancement.
Singles division winners:
Women’s 4.0 — 1st place: Valerie de Crecy (Gainesville), 2nd place: Debbie Dawson (Tampa)
Men’s 3.5 — 1st place: Matthew Kerr (Melbourne), 2nd place: Michael Mann (Boca Raton)
Men’s 4.0 — 1st place: Volker Mai (Gainesville), 2nd place: William Demitriades (Winter Park)
