Former Stanford player and new Stanford Assistant Coach Sanam Singh and University of Massachusetts-Amherst Assistant Coach Ruth Seaborne were winners at the One-On-One Doubles Super-breaker Shootout as part of the ITA College Coaches Convention on Dec. 15, 2018 in Naples, Fla.
Seabourne in the women’s final defeated Bowling Green University Head Coach Stephanie Delmaccio 10-7. In the men’s championship match Singh beat Florida State University Assistant Coach and former ATP player Ryler DeHeart 10-8.
“Twenty-four men’s college coaches, 10 who were rated as high as 13-14 on the UTR, competed for $1,000 in cash prizes,” said organizer Ed Krass. “Eleven women’s college coaches competed for $1,000 in cash prizes as well. All tournament matches were 10-point super-breakers, round-robin style up to the semifinals for the women, and up to the quarterfinals for the men.”
In the women’s semifinals Seaborne beat Michelle Dasso of Campbell University 10-2, and Delmaccio defeated Trinity’s Gretchen Rush 10-9. In the men’s semis Singh defeated Illinois Wesleyan University’s Sam Totten 10-6, and DeHeart stopped Liberty University’s Beck Pennington 10-5.
One-On-One Doubles is the half-court, serve and volley singles game played crosscourt-only with the alley included. Tournaments enforce its serve-and-volley rule, on both serves, or there is a loss of point. Half-volleys are permitted, and the returner can stay back or come in.
