Are you thinking of adding tennis to your after-school program in your elementary school or want access to resources for your existing program? We got you covered.
About The After-School Tennis Program
Our after-school program is a “Learn to Play” program for elementary students 10 & under designed to engage more players in the game of tennis. The program uses modified equipment to promote early success, with a focus on challenge and skills that helps develop a passion for tennis and builds the foundation for future success.
Program and Provider Requirements
To help you provide the best possible experience for your participants below are the requirements you can review before getting started.
Program Requirements
You can hold your program practically anywhere. Tennis courts, schoolyard, blacktop, basketball court, gymnasium, or other open space.
To provide a great experience for your program with the drills and games we suggest having at least 12 participants. If you have more or less than 12 we can work with you to tailor your program so everyone has a great time.
The curricula maps out drills and games for 6 weeks of tennis fun. On the 7th week you participants will put their skills to work and team up for a fun no-pressure Team Challenge (see more below).
Each practice is structure with the following:
- Warm up
- Pledge/Character Development
- Athletic Skills
- Tennis Skills
- Games
- Free Play
- Play at home
A Team Challenge is an introduction to competition within a low-pressure team environment. It gives players an opportunity to test their newly acquired skills in a fun competitive environment.
Providers will need to register their Team Challenge with USTA. Providers will also receive a Team Challenge Starter pack (one per year).
We help you ensure you and your volunteers have the tools to deliver your program in a safe environment for all participants. Safe Play is the USTA’s comprehensive athlete safety program consisting of education, screening, reporting tools, and policies for appropriate conduct in tennis. The USTA works with the U.S. Center for SafeSport and the United States Olympic Committee to develop Safe Play policies, procedures, and educational resources to support the USTA Safe Play program.
