One-On-One Doubles Tennis to Rock Daytona Beach on May 15
NTRP tennis players rated 3.0-5.0 will get an opportunity to play the “The Third Game of Tennis,” known as One-on-One Doubles, at the USTA Florida Mixed 40 & Over League Sectional Championships on Friday, May 15, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.
Since the game’s inception in 2004, One-On-One Doubles Tournaments have been played as part of various ATP, USTA, USPTA and ITA national events.
“One-On-One Doubles has been a great success in the last few years and I’m so excited to see USTA League players have this opportunity,” says USTA Florida Competitive Coordinator Andy Gladstone. “I know they will enjoy this fast paced, creative game combined with music and a party atmosphere.”
Divisions for the event will be Men’s 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0, and women’s 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0.
One-On-One Doubles is the half-court singles game played on the doubles court. All points are played crosscourt with the alley included, and two matches are played on one court.
To encourage net play, players will earn two points for any volley or overhead winner that an opponent cannot reach.
“This will be the first time a competitive tennis tournament institutes a ‘two-point rule’ that rewards good net play,” says Ed Krass, founder of One-On-One Doubles and the College Tennis Exposure Camps.
The cost to enter the tournament is $15 and includes music, food and adult beverages.
