The Country Club of Winter Haven in the Orlando area of Florida will host their second annual One-On-One Doubles Tournament Shootout tennis event, featuring $2,000 prize money, on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
One-On-One Doubles Tournaments, now in its 14th year, are round robin, short-set tournaments that enforce the serve and volley rule. Players serve and volley on half a court with the doubles alley included. All points are played crosscourt with a divisible middle line. Two matches are played on one court on both the deuce and ad courts.
“These prize money tournaments put the serve and volley game on display like no other format,” says organizer Ed Krass.
One-On-One Doubles Tournaments have been played by ATP legends Emilio Sanchez, Ernests Gulbis, Johan Kriek, Luke and Murphy Jensen, Mikael Pernfors, Roscoe Tanner, Mel Purcell and Jared Palmer. The tournaments usually draw players with past ATP tournament experience, and current college and junior players.
“As the club director, I am excited to bring another fantastic One-On-One Doubles tournament to The Country Club of Winter Haven,” says John Haggar, tennis director at the Country Club of Winter Haven. “We are all looking forward to the great competition and high level of tennis on display at the One-On-One Doubles Tournaments.”
One thousand dollars will be the first-place cash prize, followed by $500 for the tournament finalist, $300 for third and $200 for fourth place.
