Pro Tennis

The $25,000 Sanchez-Casal Florida, sponsored by Germain BMW of Naples, an ITF World Tour event, completed on Sunday when No. 5 seed Genaro Olivieri of Argentina lifted the title, in the final defeating unseeded Cristian Rodriguez of Colombia 7-5, 6-3 in Naples, Fla.

It was a second career title for the 21-year-old Argentine, following his first earlier this year at a $15,000 event in Buenos Aires.

Olivieri in his semifinal outlasted No. 2-seeded American Jordi Arconada 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-0, while Rodriguez advanced into the final when his opponent Adrian Andreev of Bularia retired at 3-2 in the first set.

Olivieri has also this year lost in two $15,000 finals in Tunisia and another in Buenos Aires. With the win the Argentina will likely eclipse his career-high ATP World Tour ranking of No. 463.

The 29-year-old Rodriguez is a Colombian Davis Cup veteran who was looking for a fourth career title after winning earlier this year at the $15,000 event in Cancun. He also raised trophies in 2017 in Tunisia and Turkey at the Futures level.

Rodriguez rebounded to win the doubles title with Colombian compatriot Jose Daniel Bendeck, in the all-unseeded championship match defeating the American pairing of Olivier Crawford and Sam Riffice 4-6, 6-2, 10-2.

It was Rodriguez’s second doubles title this year and the 16th of his career on the ITF World Tour.
