Long-Time Florida Tennis Volunteer Lieberman Passes at Age 71

General News

From the 1998 USTA Florida Yearbook

The USTA Florida Section was saddened by the sudden death of long-time tennis volunteer Linda Lieberman of Delray Beach, Fla., on Nov. 10, 2018 at the age of 71.

Lieberman had worked with youth, adults and families since becoming involved with the USTA Florida Section as a volunteer after relocating to Florida 27 years ago. From running a National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) after-school chapter in Delray Beach to officiating tennis tournaments, Lieberman also served on the USTA Florida Officials Committee.

Under her exemplary leadership of the Delray Beach NJTL chapter, in 1997 she was named the USTA Florida NJTL Chapter Leader of the Year.

“Linda always told me how lucky she was to have so many wonderful friendships, especially those within the USTA Florida family.  She was a wonderful official and I loved working with her.  She will be missed.” said USTA Florida Governance & Meetings Manager Lynne Salus.

The New York native became involved in tennis after the death of her husband, Scott Lieberman, in 2004. She is survived by her daughter Leigh Lieberman.

With her love of children and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the USTA Florida Section Foundation at www.ustafloridafoundation.com/get-involved/donate.
