The women’s tennis team representing Orlando captured the national title at the USTA League Adult 18 & Over 3.5 National Championships over the weekend, held at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.
The 18 & Over 3.5 women’s team from Orange-Seminole (USTA National Campus, Lake Nona) defeated a team representing USTA Intermountain (Las Vegas) 4-1 in the championship match. Earlier in the day, the Orlando women defeated a team from USTA SoCal (Yorba Linda, Calif.) 3-2 in the final.
The team is captained by Amanda Barritt and features Natalie Beavers, Cynthia Curtis, Christine Godek, Pamela Collins, Natalia Bonavia, Samantha Gonzalez, Fabricia Funes, Natasha Holland-Lobova, Leslie Hartog, Katie Wu, Cheryl Tolentino-Bernabe, Tanishia Neal, Leslie Weeks, Alisa Wolfe and Manuela Vasconcelos.
Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 participants in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 904,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
