The 25th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team played their first Atlanta Coast Conference (ACC) opponent, #50 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem on February 23. It concluded with the Lady Noles posting a 4-3 victory, causing the Demon Deacons to take its first loss of the season. Two days later the Noles were back in Tallahassee playing the University of Maryland, another ACC opponent. The Noles didn’t let a little rain upend their spirits as they routed Maryland 7-0 in the indoor tennis facility, the first sweep for the Lady Noles in conference play since April 2012.
Head Coach Jennifer Hyde stated “The team is competing very well right now. Any time you can come out 2-0 on back-to-back ACC matches is a very solid and successful weekend. I am proud of the girls and the efforts they put into the last week of preparation and it definitely showed today in our ability to close out some matches and take care of things at a very high level.”
The Noles lost their first conference match 5-2 when they took on #19 Georgia Tech on February 28 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee. They then went on to beat #62 Boston College 6-1 on Sunday, March 2, during the Tallahassee Tennis Association’s annual Recognition Day. The Noles then traveled to Syracuse on March 9 where they lost 4-3 after dropping two close three set matches. They then went on to lose to #31 Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana by a score of 6-1. The Noles are currently 8-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
