Entries are open for the USTA Florida State Closed NTRP 18 & Over Championships and the 50 & Over championships, both of which are qualifiers for the USTA NTRP National Championships in 2019.
The Florida NTRP 18 & Over Championships will be held on Oct. 26-29, 2018, at the Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton. The Florida NTRP 50 & Over Championships will be held Dec. 8-10, 2018 at the Tennis Center of Coral Springs.
“Florida players must play the Florida State Closed qualifying events in order to move onto the national event,” says USTA Florida Player Development Coordinator Andy Gladstone. “Florida division winners and division finalists will both qualify for the national event.”
The events offer the following men’s and women’s singles and doubles divisions:
18 & Over — NTRP 3.0-5.0, and mixed 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0
50 & Over — NTRP 3.0-4.5
Mixed divisions are not offered at the NTRP National Championships and the 5.0 level is only offered in the 18 & Over age group. All matches in the Florida main draws and consolation will play a super-tiebreaker in lieu of a third set.
Due to the overwhelming success of the inaugural NTRP nationals event, the NTRP National Championships have been expanded to include the 3.0 level for 18 & Over and 50 & Over age groups, as well as the 5.0 level for the 18 & Over age group.
NTRP National Championship dates:
March 29-31, 2019 — 18 & Over 3.0-5.0 Singles, Academia Sanchez-Casal, Naples, Fla.
March 29-31, 2019 — 50 & Over 3.0-4.5 Singles, Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex, Surprise, Ariz.
April 5-7, 2019 — 18 & Over 3.0-5.0 Doubles, Academia Sanchez-Casal, Naples, Fla.
April 5-7, 2019 — 50 & Over 3.0-4.5 Doubles, Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex, Surprise, Ariz.
The NTRP National Championships will feature non-elimination draws with two matches per day on Friday through Sunday; a format with best-of-three sets to four games, no-ad scoring, tiebreak at 3-all; and eight four-player round robins and that play into four eight-player single-elimination draws. Players must have a 2018 computer-generated NTRP rating to participate, and self-rated players are not eligible to participate.
