Five Teams End Season Victorious at Combo 18 & Over 5.5/7.5/9.5 Sectional Championships

The USTA National Campus played host to the Combo 18 & Over 5.5/7.5/9.5 Sectional Championships as more than 30 teams gathered for an intense week of competition. Athletes were dealing with all the Florida elements at the tournament. One minute rain, the next sunshine and breezes, the competitors didn’t let that stop their performance on the court. 

The Combo division adds a unique twist to tennis dynamics. Doubles pairs must align within 0.5 of their NTRP ratings, ensuring their combined level doesn’t surpass the chosen competition tier. For instance, in the 8.5 division, a 4.0 player might partner with a 4.5, creating dynamic matchups.  

There was tennis fun throughout the facility as five divisions were up for grabs. The Women’s 5.5 was dominated by Alachua County. The team was running through the draw all weekend long. In pool play, the team didn’t drop a single set and in the finals it was no different. The team from Gainesville, won the championship 2-1, with their only loss coming due to a player retiring. Miami-Dade County was able to win both the Men’s and Women’s 7.5 draws. Duval County won a round robin in the Men’s 5.5 and Broward County took home the Women’s 9.5. 

It was another great showing of Florida tennis talent at the Combo 18 & Over 5.5/7.5/9.5 Sectional Championships. Check out how the final draws played out.

Final Results: Alachua County (300 Club Inc) defeated Miami-Dade County (Riviera Preparatory School) 2-1
