Down to the Finals at the USTA Florida ‘Bobby Curtis’ Jr. State Tennis Chps.

Rain again disrupted play on Tuesday at the 69th USTA Florida “Bobby Curtis” Junior State Singles Championships, but not before the finals were set in the higher divisions at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

Last year’s Girls’ 16s champion, Alana Wolfberg of Orlando, worked her way on to the final, setting up a championship meeting with No. 9 seed Ysabel Gonzalez Rico of Miami, who ended the run of unseeded Alexandra Yepifanova of Aventura.

Boca Raton’s Michael Heller, the 2015 Boys’ 16s champion, is into the 18s final as the No. 3 seed. On Wednesday in the final he will face top-seeded Evan Bynoe of Parkland.

Unseeded Demi Snyder of Ft. Lauderdale continued her seed-killing run in the Girls’ 16s, gaining the final after a 7-5, 6-0 upset over No. 3 Gabriela Giraldo of Boca Raton. In the final she will meet No. 10 Molly Heber of Boca Raton, who upset No. 4 Rosie Dickson of Bradenton 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-1 to reach the final.

The seedings held for the most part with some minor upsets in the boys’ and girls’ 14s-12s, played at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, which are through to the semifinals with the tops seeds alive in three of the four divisions.
