Finals Set at USTA Florida Jr. State Championships
The finals are set for Wednesday at the 2014 USTA Florida ‘Bobby Curtis’ Junior State Championships in the boys’ and girls’ 18-12 divisions, where both familiar faces and a few surprises will contest championships.
Three-time ‘Bobby Curtis’ winner Katerina Stewart (18s division-2012, 16s-2011, 10s-2008) of Coral Gables will try and add a second Girls’ 18s title in three years when the No. 9 seed takes on No. 6 Gabriella Pollner of Boca Raton in the Girls’ 18s final.
In the Girls’ 16s final, last year’s Girls’ 14s champion Emma Decoste of Stuart as the No. 11 seed will meet No. 7-seeded Maria Ross of Lakewood Ranch. Decoste gained the final by upending No. 1 seed Adriana Reami of Miami in the semifinals 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Two-time ‘Bobby Curtis’ champion Mason Beiler (12s division-2013, 10s-2010) will be the favorite in the Boys’ 14s final when he faces No. 4-seeded Adam Neff of Bradenton. Neff upset No. 2 seed Michael Heller of Weston 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final.
In the Girls’ 14s division, former 10s winner (2011) Amanda Anisimova of Hallandale Beach reached the final with an upset over top-seeded Alana Wolfberg of Orlando 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the championship match she will face No. 3 seed Whitney Osuigwe of Bradenton, who in her semifinal ousted No. 2 seed Sophia Edwards of Sarasota 6-3, 6-4.
The 66th edition of the USTA Florida ‘Bobby Curtis’ Junior State Championships is held in age divisions 18-10, June 7-11 at four Central Florida tournament sites — the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach, Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Red Bug Lake Park in Casselberry, and at the Ormond Beach Tennis Center.
