Final Blog: Florida 18 & Over Open Tennis Team at USTA League Nationals
Adelaide Wood is blogging for USTA Florida from Las Vegas where her team is competing at the USTA National Open 18 & Over League Championships on Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Darling Tennis Center.
Day 3: Final Day
Our final day of the tournament started with an 8am match against Northern California. Dropping the singles and a close 4 and 4 doubles unfortunately meant a loss for Team Florida. Our number 2 doubles stepped it up however closing out their match 7-5 6-2 with clever poaching and solid rallying #Grinditout
Our last and final match of the day was against Southern California. We closed out the singles win with an attacking game, taking advantage of our slower-paced opponent 7-5 6-1.
The doubles was a struggle for us, since our opponents brought in a more traditional, old-fashioned style of play, with crafty slicing and volleys. However, we quickly adapted and proved that our games were stronger, finishing with a win at our second line of doubles 6-4 6-4.
We were very pleased to end our tournament with a win against So Cal and we are already looking forward to next year’s Road To Vegas event.
A huge thank you to USTA Florida for making this happen and to our sponsor ‘LA Freak’ for our awesome outfits.
Until next time Vegas!!!
