General Match & Play Information
Championship Commitment:
Florida 2.03A(5)a: Teams participating in Sectional championships must have the minimum number of team members eligible, registered, and available to combine and compete (see chart below). This requirement will not be waived. The fees for championships, which are assessed per player per team, will be determined administratively and announced in the specific championship information. Entry fees will not be refunded to teams that withdraw from any championship after the tournament schedule is first published. A team that withdraws from any championship after the tournament schedule is first published or does not have the minimum number of players available to compete for their first team match, shall be subject to grievance. This includes their entire championship registered roster and any non-registered players who made a commitment to participate in the championship.
Florida 2.03L(1): All captains/players on a championship team not playing all matches in good faith or defaulting an entire team match shall be subject to a grievance. This includes registered and non-registered players who made a commitment to participate in the championship.
Scoring: Florida 2.03C(1) – Scoring, Rest, and Suspended Play. All matches played at the USTA Florida Sectional Championships shall be the best of two tiebreak sets with a set tiebreak (using the Coman tiebreak procedure) at 6-all. In the event of split sets, a match tiebreak (using the Coman tiebreak procedure) shall be played in lieu of a third set. No coaching is allowed at any time. If a player plays multiple matches in a day for the same team, they will be entitled to a minimum rest period of one hour between matches.
Championship Format: Please note that the tournament format, number of matches, and scoring format may change due to circumstances beyond our control. Weather conditions could cause delays, modifications, and possible cancellation of the tournament. The indoor courts are not guaranteed to be available to use in the event of inclement weather (see Florida 2.03P).
Umpires: There are roving umpires present at all championship sites. Roving umpires may be positioned inside the fenced areas and will interfere with play as little as possible. Players should be encouraged to play tennis without the need for umpires to be present. In the case of disputed calls and upon the request of the player, a roving umpire may be requested to observe a portion of the match.
Trainer: There will be a trainer on-site to assist with athletic injuries.
Awards: Winners and Finalists must report to the tournament desk for award distribution and team pictures following their final match. Trophies will not be shipped if the team chooses not to stay.
