Champions Crowned at Adult 18 & Over 2.5/4.0 & Adult 40 & Over 3.0 Sectional Championships

USTA Florida hosted the Adult 18 & Over 2.5/4.0 as well as the Adult 40 & Over Men’s 3.0 Sectional Championships at the USTA National Campus. 

Play was completed in the Adult 18 & Over Women’s 2.5 and Adult 40 & Over 3.0 Men’s draws. In the Women’s 2.5, Miami-Dade County played near-perfect tennis, taking down Polk in the championship to book their spot at Nationals. Additionally, Orange County played great, defeating Escambia County in a competitive final for the 40 & Over Men’s 3.0 

However, battling the inclement weather caused by Hurricane Debby, the UTSA Florida Championship Committee made the difficult decision to suspend play on Monday, August 5, 2024, for the Adult 18 & Over 4.0 divisions. As previously communicated, this tournament does not have a scheduled rain date. 

Per regulation, Florida- 2.03P Postponement, Rescheduling, or Cancellation. Should any event occur which potentially could result in the postponement, rescheduling, or cancellation of a championship, the Championship Committee in conjunction with the League Committee shall review, time permitting, the issues and circumstances causing the potential postponement, rescheduling or cancellation; make appropriate decisions based on the facts; and communicate such in a timely manner. If a championship cannot be completed for any reason, the Championship Committee in consultation with the League Committee shall determine the teams advancing to the next championship level.   

The Championship Committee, in consultation with the League Committee, has decided that for the 4.0 Men’s level the advancing Champion team is determined to be Hillsborough (Orsini) and the Finalist team is Broward (Newman). For the 4.0 Women’s level the advancing Champion team is determined to be Brevard (Wolszczak) and the Finalist team is Hillsborough (Morgenstern). The criteria used was the highest game winning percentage amongst undefeated teams in flight play.
