As the temperature starts to cool down, name a better activity than some friendly tennis competition. The USTA National Campus played host to exactly that as players from across the state gathered for the Adult 40 & Over 2.5/3.0/3.5 Sectional Championship.
There were three different divisions in play this weekend, two for the men and one for the women. In the sole lady’s division, Duval and Hillsborough County battled it out in hopes of winning their first championship. The singles line was dominated by Duval as they won 6-1, 6-2. When it came to doubles, it was a back-and-forth match, as both went to a final tiebreaker set. But, Duval County came out victorious and took both to lines to secure the 3-0 score and the trophy.
Over in the Men’s 3.0, Broward County dominated Escambia in a convincing 4-0 win. They won each match in straight sets with the games total being 48-11. This marked Broward’s fourth consecutive title.
It was a similar success for Broward in the 3.5 division, as they faced off against Polk County. Polk took the sole singles match, but doubles was run by Broward. This was the county’s fifth sectional championship in the last six years.
The competing teams represented various clubs, parks, recreational departments, and organizations, and finished at the top of their local leagues during the 2022 season to advance to the USTA Florida 40 & Over Sectional Championships.
These champions have qualified for the 2022 USTA League National Championships that will take place in October later this year.
