4 Florida Jr. Players Collect Titles From USTA National Clay Courts Tennis

Florida players brought home five titles in seven finals last weekend during the USTA National Clay Court Championships, played in locations throughout the U.S. in boys’ and girls’ 18-12 divisions.

Logan Zapp of Fleming Island, last year’s boys’ 16s winner at the USTA Florida “Bobby Curtis” Junior State Championships, swept both the singles and doubles titles at the USTA Boys’ 16s National Clay Court Championships, held in Delray Beach, Fla.

The No. 4-seeded Zapp in the singles final upset No. 2 Ryan Fishback (Geneva, N.Y.) 6-0, 6-2. In the doubles final he teamed with Alexander Bernard (Bonita Springs, Fla.) as the No. 9 seeds, in the final upending No. 3 seeds Jeremie Casabon (Flourtown, Pa.) and Hunter Heck (Saint Paul, Minn.) 6-2, 6-4.

Zapp with the win earned a wild card into a future USTA Pro Circuit event.

Florida swept the singles and doubles titles at the USTA Girls’ 12s National Clay Court Championships in Boca Raton, where No. 14 seed Mia Slama (Boca Raton) upset No. 4 Alexia Harmon (Las Vegas) in the singles final 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. In the doubles Florida’s Brooklyn Olson (Bradenton), the top seed with partner Natalia Perez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico), beat No. 2 seeds Ashton Bowers (Bloomington, Ill.) and Elisabeth Dunac (University Park, Md.), 6-3, 6-3.

Finishing runner-up were Axel Nefve (Boca Raton) in the boys’ 18s singles, and former multiple “Bobby Curtis” singles title winner Alana Wolfberg (Orlando) in the girls’ 18s doubles.
