Junior Tournaments Youth Tennis News

High school student-athletes across Florida are getting ready to compete in one of the most exciting events of the season, the 2025 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Tennis State Championships. The courts will heat up starting Monday, April 28, with competition running through Friday, May 2.

All season long, high school teams and standout players have been putting in the work, facing off in challenging matchups, and pushing their limits. All sharing one goal, a shot at the state title. Now that the brackets are finalized, fans can start circling the most anticipated matchups and watch the journey come to an end across all classifications.

The 2025 FHSAA Tennis State Championships are shaping up to be an exciting showdown in Class 4A, with several powerhouses looking to make another deep run and new contenders eager to shake up the standings.

On the girls’ side, Steinbrenner returns as the reigning state champion and will look to defend their crown. With a well-rounded roster and a history of success, Steinbrenner enters the Final 8 with high expectations once again. But they’ll face stiff competition from some talented programs across the state.

Winter Park and Cypress Bay both have the depth and experience to make a run, while Miami Palmetto and Lake Nona, both with strong resumes this season, are primed to make noise in the later rounds. With so many teams entering the tournament playing their best tennis, the girls’ 4A draw is wide open and full of potential upsets.

On the boys’ side, defending champion Doral Academy is back and aiming for a repeat performance, but they’re not the only team with title hopes. Lake Nona is one of the biggest stories of the season, heading into the championships with a perfect 21-0 record. However, contenders like Cypress Bay, Spanish River, and Steinbrenner are all well-positioned to challenge for the top spot.

With so much talent spread across the bracket and no clear favorite, this year’s Class 4A championship is expected to deliver some of the most competitive and thrilling matches of the week.

In Class 3A, the field is filled with both familiar faces and exciting newcomers, promising a thrilling week of high-level competition.

On the girls’ side, all eyes are on St. Thomas Aquinas as they aim for an incredible fourth straight state title. They have been the team to beat in recent years, showing a level of consistency and dominance that few programs can match. However, their path to another championship won’t come easy. Niceville comes into the tournament undefeated and will look to cap off their perfect season with a title. Nease is also a team to watch, bringing a balanced roster and momentum from a strong postseason run.

Meanwhile, Jensen Beach is quietly making noise with an  impressive record of their own.

For the boys, defending 3A champions Barron Collier were reclassified to 2A this year, opening the door for a new champion to emerge. Osceola might be the frontrunner to seize that opportunity. But, teams like Chiles and Nease are both entering the tournament with strong lineups and plenty of experience. Wiregrass Ranch is another team poised to make waves, returning to the Final 8 with one of their most competitive squads in recent years. And don’t count out St. Thomas Aquinas as they finished runners-up last year.

Storylines in 2A

2A is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years, especially with the recent reclassification of a powerhouse in Barron Collier. Dominant in 3A for years, they are now looking to bring that same energy to 2A and will be a team to watch on both sides of the bracket.

For the girls, the 2A bracket will crown a new champion this year, as American Heritage Delray was eliminated in regional play. That opens the door for a number of contenders, led by Fort Walton Beach and Lake Highland Prep, both of which bring near-perfect records into the postseason.

Gulliver Prep is another strong contender in the girls’ bracket, with a history of postseason success. Meanwhile, Barron Collier could very well carry their 3A success into this new division.

On the boys’ side, defending champions American Heritage Delray are seeking their third consecutive state title. Their streak of success and big-match experience will be put to the test with teams like Bolles and Lake Highland Prep.

Bolles has been strong all year and carried that into regionals, while Lake Highland Prep enters the state tournament having lost just two matches all year. Both teams are poised and ready to take on the reigning champs and anyone else in their path.

Storylines in 1A

Over in 1A, the brackets are filled with a great mix of powerhouses and rising contenders looking to shake things up.

On the girls’ side, all eyes are on True North Academy as they aim for a three-peat. After breaking Saint Andrew’s longstanding streak two years ago, True North hasn’t looked back and is trying to cement their own dynasty in 1A.

They’ll face some stiff competition though, with a number of schools entering the championship on hot streaks. Grandview Prep has put together a strong year, as well as Benjamin, who has been a consistent force. Meanwhile, The First Academy has dropped only two matches this season.

On the boys’ side, Saint Andrew’s continues to be the benchmark, riding an incredible five-year state title streak. With another loaded roster and plenty of experience, they’ll look to make it six in a row.

However, this year’s 1A field might be the toughest they’ve seen in a while. True North Academy enters the tournament undefeated and looking to dethrone the kings. Also in the mix is Out-of-Door Academy and Maclay, two teams that’ve built momentum all year and has the depth to make a run.

With legends trying to continue their reign and hungry challengers ready to make their mark, the 1A State Championships promise a week full of thrilling action, dramatic upsets, and championship-caliber tennis from start to finish. Whether it’s a sixth straight title or a new name etched into the record books, 1A is set for a showdown.
