2020 is here, and the men’s and women’s collegiate tennis teams at schools across Florida have already jumped into their 2020 schedules. On top of that, the highly anticipated Oracle/ITA Preseason Rankings for both men and women were announced last week – just in time for the action to start up again.
In Division 1, the University of Florida’s men’s tennis team opened 2020 as the top nationally-ranked team in the country. It’s the first time the Gators have notched a No. 1 preseason ranking, following their highest back in 2006 at No. 2. UF’s women’s team will begin their season at No. 24.

Both the Florida State and University of Miami men’s and women’s teams face strong lineups, as they play in one of the toughest conferences in the nation – the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Seminole women enter the season at No. 16 coming off a historical 2019 season filled with multiple program bests including the best record (21-7) and the most ACC wins in program history. The women of the Hurricanes, ranked No. 23 going into 2020, kicked-off their season over the weekend in the Bahamas, for the first-ever Pink Flamingo Cup hosted by the Baha Mar resort. The destination showcase, sanctioned by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), will not only feature the Hurricanes but three other top programs in the sport: UF, Texas, and UCLA.

After reaching the Sweet 16 in last season’s NCAA Tournament, the University of Central Florida women’s team sits at No. 13, the best ranking in the program’s history. The Knights will return with five of their six starters from last season, with several solid additions. Meanwhile, the UCF men have the potential to play at least one opponent from each Power 5 conference: two Southeastern Conference (SEC) schools, two ACC schools, two Big 10 opponents, one Big 12 team and an opportunity for tournament play against a Pacific-12 squad.
