The 2016 USTA Florida Super Senior schedule and Florida Cup dates were released this week, with the 13th Florida Cup to be held at University Park Country Club on April 9-10 in Sarasota.
“USPTA-certified Jason Groce and his staff will host the two-day event for the first time as the matches return to Sarasota for a second visit,” said Florida Cup Commissioner Mark Taylor.
The West leads the series over the East 9-3. The East won in 2015 at Mirasol Country Club by the score of 34-16, and will look to claim the Cup in back-to-back years for the first time.
The West Coast Super Senior series, established in 1988, is back for its 28th season with an increased schedule to eight tournaments, with new additions the Colonial Country Club in Fort Myers, and Payne Park in Sarasota. Both facilities have hosted SSGP events in the past, and tournament directors Jeff Timmer and Sean Rogers have returned to the circuit for the upcoming year.
Naples will be the home to three consecutive tournaments in January at World Tennis Center, Sanchez-Casal and Sterling Oaks, followed by a bye week to start February. Sarasota will host Payne Park, the Meadows and Palm Aire to round out the month before the Super Cat 2 event with Tournament Director Sam Vuille at St. Pete Country Club.
“The increase from six tournaments in 2015 to eight tournaments demonstrates the health of the circuit and will provide a full event schedule for senior players in the age divisions 55-90,” Taylor said.
The East Coast Super Senior series is back for another year, with all four venues returning.
