Day 2 Results — 2015 USTA Florida Jr. State Championships
Play was reduced to the Round of 16 as a handful of seeds were uprooted on Sunday, Day 2 of play at the 2015 USTA Florida “Bobby Curtis” Junior State Championships at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach and sites in Orlando.
Imani Graham of Saint Johns (outside of Jacksonville), last year’s Girls 12s champion, in the Girls’ 16s upset top-seeded Stevie Kennedy of Bonita Springs 6-4, 7-5.
Also among Top 8-seeded upsets in the Girls’ 16s, Camille Townsend of Coconut Creek ousted No. 7 Stephanie Taylor of Fort Lauderdale 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, and Bradenton’s Elli Mandlik upended No. 8 seed Gia Cohen of Bradenton 6-2, 6-2.
In the Boys’ 18s division, unseeded Mason Beiler of Palm Harbor, the 2012 Boys’ 12 champ, ousted No. 4 seed Jonathan Deautriell of Pembroke Pines 6-3; 6-4.
Miami produced three upsets in the Boys’ 14s as Ryan Fung ousted No. 5 Daniel Labrador 4-6, 6-1, 6-0; Esteban Sierra surprised No. 8 Theo Winegar of Sarasota 6-4, 6-2; and Sean Buechele topped No. 3 seed Samuel Rubell 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
